چکیده

Operational experience with model-driven steering in the linac of the Stanford Linear Collider is discussed. Important issues include two-beam steering, sensitivity of algorithms to faulty components, sources of disagreement with the model, and the effects of the finite resolution of beam position monitors. Methods developed to make the steering algorithms more robust in the presence of such complications are also present.ed.

Detection of Beam Induced Dipole-Mode Signals in the SLC S-Band Structures*

Beam emittance dilution caused by wakefield effects is one of the important issues in the SLC linac. The detection of beam induced dipole mode signals in the C.. band range could provide a direct measure of the strength of transverse wakefield kicks the beam experiences in the accelerating structures. We investigate the applicability of these microwave signals for beam steering purposes. The RF...

Feedback Systems for Linear Colliders

Feedback systems are essential for stable operation of a linear collider, providing a cost-effective method for relaxing tight tolerances. In the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC), feedback controls beam parameters such as trajectory, energy, and intensity throughout the accelerator. A novel dithering optimization system which adjusts final focus parameters to maximize luminosity contributed to ac...

Studies of Beam Induced Dipole-Mode Signals in Accelerating Structures at the SLC

Beam emittance dilution by self induced transverse elds (wake elds) in accelerating structures is a key problem in linear accelerators. To minimize the wake eld e ects the beam trajectory must be precisely centered within the structures. An e cient way to achieve this is to detect beam induced microwave signals in the lowest dipole mode band and to steer the beam by minimizing these signals. Th...

Quadrupole Alignment and Trajectory Correc- Tion for Future Linear Colliders: Slc Tests of a Dispersion-free Steering Algorithm

The feasibility of future linear colliders depends on achieving very tight alignment and steering tolerances. All proposals (NLC, JLC, CLIC, TESLA and S-BAND) currently require a total emittance growth in the main linac of less than 30-100% [1]. This should be compared with a 100% emittance growth in the much smaller SLC linac [2]. Major advances in alignment and beam steering techniques beyond...

Test Facilities for Future Linear Colliders

For many years now there has been active research around the world towards a future linear collider with an energy of about 1 TeV. This research has led to several test facilities around the world that seek to test key aspects of the various approaches. A comparison of the approaches to the design is given in these proceedings [1]. The purpose of this paper is to review the status of the test f...
